Blueberry lassi flavored with cardamom is the best drink for summer. Nothing quenches summer heat like a tall glass of flavored lassi. This delicious blueberry lassi combines the goodness of yogurt with fresh (or frozen) blueberries.

I love making use of seasonal fresh produces. Last week, our local grocery store had a fantastic sale on fresh blueberries. I got very excited and bought a lot of blueberries. I froze almost 10 pounds of blueberries to use throughout the year and also saved quite a bit to eat fresh.

Blueberries are something I use a lot in baking. It is one of the berries which I always have in the freezer. A couple of my favorites to bake are this vegan banana blueberry crumb muffin and Lemon blueberry bread. And my son loves to add a handful of blueberries to his cereal.

If you don't want to bake with blueberries, then try this delicious Yogurt blueberry banana granola parfait or this Blueberry banana chia smoothie. Both of these recipes combine the goodness of blueberry and yogurt and they are a great choice for breakfast.

Healthy benefits of yogurt

  • Yogurt is the best source of probiotics and it is very essential to maintain a healthy gut and promotes good digestion.
  • Probiotics are essential for the body to be able to absorb other important nutrients like calcium, iron, and vitamins.
  • Yogurt is a good source of calcium, which is important for bone health.
  • Yogurt is rich in protein and is very essential for vegetarians to include as part of their everyday diet.

Greek yogurt and unflavored yogurt are the best. I like to make my own homemade yogurt that I use for everyday consumption.

We all love lassi at home and often make it. Mango lassi is one of the most frequent flavored lassi that I make. This time when I saw fresh blueberries, I could not resist the urge to make this delicious Blueberry lassi.

Ingredients needed

Ingredients needed to make blueberry lassi.

Blueberry - We can use fresh or frozen blueberries to make blueberry lassi. I have used fresh blueberries this time as I have many. Eventually, when we get to off-season time, I will be using frozen berries.

Yogurt - Use fresh plain yogurt. Greek yogurt works really well to make lassi, but if not any plain, unflavored yogurt will work. I make my own homemade yogurt from full-fat milk and that is what I used to make this blueberry lassi.

Milk - I have used full-fat milk to make the lassi.

Cardamom powder - I used a little cardamom powder to flavor the lassi. But feel free to skip it or use a dash of cinnamon or vanilla instead.

Sweetener - Use sugar or any other sweetener of your choice. I like using honey instead of sugar at times. Using any other kind of syrup like maple syrup will change the flavor of the blueberry lassi as well.

Ice - If using fresh blueberries, definitely use some ice to chill the lassi and also to make it creamier. If using frozen blueberries, skip the ice.

Blender - We will need a high-speed blender to blend everything together.

Step-by-step process

Wash and clean the blueberries. If using frozen berries, use them straight from the freezer. Do not thaw.

Add the blueberries, yogurt, milk, sweetener, and cardamom powder to the blender jar.

Blend them well until smooth and creamy.

Pour in tall glasses and enjoy.

How to serve blueberry lassi?

Blueberry lassi tastes amazing on a hot day. Serve it for breakfast or any time of the day.

Lassi is typically served along with the meal in Indian cuisine. I usually make it as an evening drink as well in summer.

Serve the lassi fresh and cold. Blend it with ice as adding ice cubes to the lassi will liquefy the texture. If using frozen blueberries, skip adding the ice.

Expert tips

  • Use fresh blueberries when in season to make this blueberry lassi.
  • Sweeteners can be adjusted depending on how sweet the blueberries are. The berries that I used this time were very sweet and I did not need much honey in the recipe at all.
  • Serve the lassi cold.
  • Use yogurt that is not sour.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use any other fruits or berries to make lassi?

Absolutely yes. I make Mango lassi and Papaya lassi often. We could also make strawberry lassi by swapping the blueberries with strawberries.

Can I refrigerate leftover blueberry lassi?

Yes, we can refrigerate the leftover lassi for a day or so. When serving it, I like to blend it once again in the blender to make it light and creamy.

Can I make blueberry lassi vegan?

Use non-dairy yogurt and milk to make Vegan blueberry lassi.

Oh yum! This reminds me of a thick, creamy blueberry smoothie I make for my children. Except I've never added cardamom before. That's going in next time, for sure! Also, I agree - gotta use whole milk! That's the way to go.

This was so good. I have had so many lassi combinations but never with blueberry. It was so tasty. I doubled the yoghurt and skipped the milk.

Vanilla flavor is a great idea to use in blueberry lassi. We could skip the cardamom in that case 🙂

This was absolutely delicious! I snuck in a scoop of vanilla protein powder to pump up the protein beyond the Greek yogurt, and it was such a treat.

Trying to work more probiotics into my diet (ah- aging) and figured I'd try this since there are only so many bowls of yogurt I can consume. This has changed my whole yogurt-tolerating life, and I can't wait to try more flavors! Thank you!

Erica, I so agree about paying more attention to what we eat as we age. Love the Indian diet for that reason as we use a lot of yogurt. Thanks for your feedback 🙂

This was such an interesting drink!!’ I’ve had plenty of great mango lassis over the years, but never had a blueberry lassi until this one. It was creamy, flavorful and not too sweet - the perfect summer beverage!
